While fall may bring you to Western North Carolina, winter will keep you here! Full of fun activities, this charming area offers plenty of options to keep you busy and entertained throughout the snowy season.
As your local real estate expert, I’ve come up with a list of my “can’t miss” winter events and activities that will make you forget about the cold and fall in love with this incredible area.
While this could be a wonderful fall activity as well, exploring the waterfalls at Dry Falls just outside Highlands is an incredible experience. A fantastic feat of nature, the unique geography of the area allows you to walk behind this 75 foot waterfall and stay perfectly dry.
If you choose to visit in winter, you’re in for an even more incredible view! See the beautiful ice formations caused by the fall’s spray and snap some truly one-of-a-kind pictures.
Winter Warmer Beer Festival
One of the most highly anticipated events in Asheville, the Winter Warmer Beer Festival offers a fun day while giving back to a great cause. This fun festival donates much of its profits to Western North Carolina Alliance to protect the area’s mountains, rivers and forests.
Enjoy going through the afternoon tasting countless local brews, a source of pride for Asheville. If this sounds like a dream come true, be sure to buy tickets ahead of time— the last 5 years of this festival have sold out!
Nation Gingerbread House Competition
Perhaps one of the most unusual Asheville offerings, the National Gingerbread House Competition is a tradition that offers fun for all ages. This competition is on its 26th year, and is highly anticipated throughout the year.
Featured on Goodmorning America and The Food Network, the National Gingerbread Competition attracts competitors from all over. If you prefer to simply watch, all houses will be on display through the holiday season after being judged.
